There's an update for August 28th-- the last session of the month is scheduled for AlaHeiau- in Puna- HPP---
However it has been changed to the cliffs on Beach Road in HPP- take Paradise Drive to Beach rd.
Turn right towards Makuu- drive down til you see the group- nestled in the trees or perched on a cliff. This is due to the havoc wreaked by tropical storm Iselle- our sweet Ala Heiau experienced a large loss of trees- and they are all over the place- another time- w/ aloha, Amy

JULY SCHEDULE/en plein aire
ALOHA ARTISTS, ALOHA JULY! Well, it's summertime, or as its experienced here in Hawaii Nei, the dry season.. less rain, longer days, stronger sunlight, humidity .... I always miss the rain. But don't let July surprise you with it's random trade wind showers, they can be significant... Anyhow, I hope your 4th of July Holiday is mellow, fun and filled with color!

JUNE en PLEIN AIRE
JUNE-
Aloha June, Aloha Artists! Painting en plein aire is a wonderful challenge, one of the most important aspects is that your studio is the great outdoors..... no matter what the sky is doing, the lighting is beautiful. The trades are back again, and with them is the rain.. it's always a give take when it comes to conditions... Anyhow, on with the schedule. It is created by Leslie Sears, I post it to this site to assist the process. Hopefully some of you readers will be able to make it to the locations at least once or twice this June... :)
SCHEDULE- every Thursday, start anytime, end anytime- bring your own supplies...
sometimes you may need to bring water, and have restroom concerns well thought out.....
5- WAI'ULI- once known as Leleiwi, it's in Keaukaha just before Richardson's Beach Park. Covered pavilions, wonderful views, water, and bathrooms...
12-HAKALAU BEACH PARK- Hamakua, From Hilo- take hwy.19 to Hakalau, it's the first Makai road north of Honomu. Take Old Mamalahoa Hwy to the valley bottom. Water not for drinking, and Lua are not the flush kind.
19- LESLIE'S FARM.. "13 Mile Farm", Kurtistown.. From Hilo, take Volcano Hwy. turn Mauka (right) at Huina Road, just across from J.Hara Store in Kurtistown. Approx. 1Mile up turn right on Momona St., you will see "Plant It Hawaii". Keep going until the road makes a T, turn left (mauka), next turn is on the First Driveway-it's long with a white house at the end. There will be a gathering after painting, so bring something to share if you can....
26-MACKENZIE STATE PARK- Puna, Red Road. From Pahoa, take the Pahoa-Kapoho Road (hwy 132). The road will fork, -go straight (mostly) onto the Pahoa-Pohoiki Road. Just before you get to Pohoiki Beach Park you'll come to a stop sign, turn right onto Hwy 137 (Kapoho-Kalapana Road), aka "Red Road"(used to be paved with Red Cinder). Follow down until you see the sign for Mackenzie Beach Park on the makai side (approx. 2miles down). Turn left there, look for the group, or just set up....... wonderful vistas....

MAY en Plein Aire
ALOHA ARTISTS, ALOHA MAY!
As I sit here on a balcony in Florence Italy, enjoying birdsong on this pretty little afternoon,
I long to be on a familiar beach in Hawai'i. Don't get me wrong.... travel has been cool, the
people have been warm, and the muses granted me inspiration and joy while viewing the iconic statue of DAVID, and standing in the Sistine Chapel with tears in my eyes.
Anyhow, May's schedule is here, and it's a truly lovely month. Leslie has posted paint sites to invigorate even the most laid back of painters.. So hope to see you there..
MAY SCHEDULE- every Thursday- bring your paint kit and set up and go-
1-WAI'ULI BEACH PARK-pau already- check it out on the first Thurs. of June :)
8-McKENZIE BEACH PARK- PUNA, "red road" location- From Pahoa, take 132 hwy to Pahoa-Pohoiki , it's the one that veers to the right at that junction. Follow down (careful of oncoming cars and mango trees that won't get out of your way) until the stop sign. You see 137 hwy on your right. Turn, and follow for about 2 miles to McKenzie State Park... it's well marked. Drive in and set up.
15-PU'U O'O TRAIL- Saddle Road location- From Hilo, take Saddle to the 23 mm. Look for Trail Head sign, and small parking area. A bit of rough terrain, but you don't have to hike to enjoy this spot. Lots of kipuka and long views... can set up right at Trail Head, if you just walk 5 or so minutes.
No facilities.
22-ALA HEIAU BEACH- Paradise Park, Puna- Maku'u Drive to the bottom, turn right.. drive to the
end of the road. Park and walk till you feel like painting. No Facilities.. magical location.
29-RADIO BAY-Hilo-Keaukaha- Kalaniana'ole Ave to just past the Aloha Petroleum place on your left.. and right before the Aqua Culture place (white tents) ... look for a small dirt road marked Beach Access.. turn in and follow down.. it's dirt but well maintained. No Facilities. Long views, Harbor Views, shade trees and sometimes big surf....

APRIL 2014/
Aloha Artists, Aloha April..
Well, the schedule came in last night.. but not to worry, everyone knows that the First Thursday
of Each Month is at Wai'uli Beach Park in Keaukaha. Paint on!
APRIL SCHEDULE- every Thursday, show up when you can, everyone seems to be there in the afternoon.
3- WAI'ULI BEACH PARK-Just off Kalaniana'ole Ave, before Richardson's
10- KILOHANA-On the Saddle Rd.. Go towards Waimea when the road divides. 43.5 mile mark you'll see the Kilohana Station on the right side. Turn onto that dirt road, and follow up past the hunters check in station, Painters will be about 1/2 mile up. Sometimes the gate to Kilohana is locked. In that case, go back to Saddle Rd. go up just a bit, and we'll be at the Girl Scout Camp on the left.
17-BABY BEACH-Keuakaha, Kalanianaole Dr, to Onekahakaha, turn left, and take the first left, Apapane St. go to Lihikai, and turn right. Go to the end of the road, and park behind the gated area..

MARCH en Plein Aire

I apologize for the tardiness of this posting! I have been consumed with moving our One Gallery
from it's long time Kilauea Street location, to it's new home on Bay Front... 186 Kamehameha Ave
in case you're in Hilo and want to check it out... a real labor of love for sure.
Anyhow, March is always a lovely month.. not too cold, not too hot.. and we are starting to get our trades back more consistently now too. Another added bonus is that the magnificent whales are still playing in the ocean for at least another month or so...

6-WAI'ULI BEACH PARK- pau already..
13-HAKALAU BEACH PARK- From Hilo, take hwy 19 to the Hakalau turn off, on the makai side, just north of Honomu.. look for Old Mamalahoa Hwy. Turn down and follow this small winding road through a residental area, it eventually turns down into a large picuresque valley,
river, ocean, pali, it's even landscaped. Facilities.
20-KOLEKOLE BEACH PARK- From Hilo, just Past Honomu, but Mauka Side of the Hwy 19. Well marked. Turn onto the valley road, and head down. Facilities. River, ocean, pali views too, but arranged differently than Hakalau..
27-4 MILE BEACH PARK- Hilo, Keauakaha. On the Hilo side of Carlsmith Beach Park, you've probably seen people congregate along the seashore.. fishing and what not. Nice views of the
Carlsmith Park's turquiose waters and soft green sea grasses. A great place to see huge Honu.

FEBRUARY en PLEIN AIRE
Aloha Artists! Aloha February!
I've been down with the flu! Yuck... anyhow, if I'm ever late in posting, always know that Every First
Thursday the spot is Wai'uli, in Keaukaha. I hope to see you there.. February is a nice month for painting-- we quite often can see some snow on top of Mauna Kea, the whales are here, and we have some nice trade winds back...
SCHEDULE- every Thursday, Sunrise to Sunset.
6- WAI'ULI- Keaukaha, Kalaniana'ole Ave to Wai'uli beach. Large parking area, water, bathrooms,
fabulous views, and nice shelter.
13-ALA HEIAU-Puna, Makuu Drive to the bottom and turn right on Ala Heiau Road. One of our most favorite locations, bar none. No facilities.
20-LAUPAHOEHOE POINT- Hamakua, North of Hilo. From Hilo take the Hamakua Hwy to the Lauapahoehoe turn, just after the 27 mile marker, and the second gulch. Drive all the way to the bottom where you will come to a coastal beach park. Dramatic and beautiful. Worth the drive. Bathrooms and water available.
27-4 MILE BEACH- Keaukaha, just before Carlsmith Beach Park. Nice views across the bay, and the largest sea turtles around. Facilities available.
